Silverbrook — a Korean text MUD you can play right in your browser
No installation or registration required. Just open the address and set a name, and you start right there.
What a MUD was
It’s an online game from the era before pictures. We described rooms in text, gave commands in text, and talked with others in the same room through text. Without pictures, imagination was even greater, and people remembered each other.
There’s almost nothing left now. The remaining items also require a separate telnet client to be installed.
Silverbrook only requires opening the URL
No installation or registration needed. Open the address in your browser, set a name, and start right away. The screen stays intact on mobile too.
No level. There is proficiency
It's not about what level you are, but what you have done a lot that shapes your character.
- Swinging a sword makes it grow
- Ignore the spell, the spell takes time
- Using healing potions frequently makes you better at using them.
It’s not a game where you kill mobs to fill an XP bar; it’s a game where you become proficient just by using what you have over time.
World's Blessing — a device that can't be fully used in a day
All abilities have a ceiling for the day. Connect and the ceiling rises by the amount of time you play. When you hit the ceiling, a message appears: "The world's blessing is insufficient…". Use the 가호 command to check your current status.
I didn't want to make a game where you have to stay up all night to keep up with others. I made it so playing an hour a day for a long time is advantageous.
To not lose your way — Guide Fairy
In MUD, most players leave within 5 minutes because they don't know what to do at first. So we added Main Mission 15 Steps and Guide Fairy. When you complete a mission, it shows what to do now, and turning on mission tracking keeps telling you the next destination.
Current contents
| Room | 73 items |
|---|---|
| Item | 88 types |
| Mob | 36 types |
| Region | 5 locations |
| Main mission | 15 steps |
| Party | Up to 10 people |
| Action commands | 50 kinds |
At the blacksmith, you can enhance weapons, engrave inscriptions, and receive blessings. You can also place items in the donation center or trade directly with other players.
Still lacking
It’s a newly opened area, so there aren’t many people. Also, the mobs haven’t become as strong as players yet, so high‑level characters lack opponents. Stronger mobs are being added per region.
